The cost of a family vacation in one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals is a real deal, especially when you compare it to what it costs for a last-minute trip to the Super Bowl.

Of course this coming Sunday is the big game, when Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers take on Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos in San Francisco.

And local news station 2 decided to tally what it would take for a person to book a trip to the game this weekend.  Here’s what they found:

  • Airfare from Charleston to San Francisco: $975 round-trip;
  • Rental car to get around the Bay Area and to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara: about $217 per day for a mid-size rental;
  • Last-minute hotel: around $1,236 a night for a 3-night hotel stay;
  • Parking pass for the stadium: $2,532 to park your car (!!!!);
  • Then there’s a ticket to the game. A single Super Bowl 50 ticket: the average going rate is $12,815.

The grand total?  $17,775.

Yikes.  And remember  -  that is only for ONE PERSON, and for basically what amounts to one evening’s worth of entertainment with a couple extra nights thrown in.  Just think how many of your dear friends and family you could invite with you to your luxury house on Isle of Palms (like 29,  if you choose Port of Call) ... for an entire week’s worth of fun.

Anyway, here’s a link to the full tally:   http://counton2.com/2016/02/01/how-much-does-a-last-minute-trip-to-super-bowl-50-cost/

It sure seems like a better option is just to watch it from the comfort of one of our rental homes South Carolina, like our Isle of Palms  vacation rentals.  Our beach rentals Charleston come with terrific big screen TVs  -  plus by watching it on TV rather than in person, you won’t miss the commercials.

Panthers logo on yard

If you decide to stay home and want to show your Panther pride prior to the game, a guy in Greenville, North Carolina has just the thing to put your party over the top.  Gerard Bryant will come and paint a giant Panther logo on your yard, which actually looks especially good now that the grass is in its winter mode.  He charges just $150 for the service (plus travel to where you live)… and actually that includes both the Panthers and the Broncos logos as well as an image of the Super Bowl trophy.  Here’s the whole story, including a video showing the finished product:  http://counton2.com/2016/02/01/north-carolina-panthers-fan-offers-lawn-decoration-for-super-bowl-50/

Super gas prices near our Isle of Palms vacation rentals

As I covered in THIS blog, and THIS one, gas prices continue to be in the news, and the news is still good.

The average price for a gallon on regular unleaded gas in South Carolina dropped yet again during the past week, falling an additional 2.4 cents.   GasBuddy pegs the SC average at $1.59 per gallon.  As usual, South Carolina has among the lowest gas prices in the country  -  yet another reason to opt for SC vacation rentals.

That’s 26 cents lower per gallon that this time last year.

The national average also dropped, to $1.80 a gallon.   It’s the lowest price for that date since February 1st, 2009.
