In these COVID days, people are getting creative about ways to be entertained, and they’re reaching back to one from the good ol’ days  -  the drive-in movie. All of a sudden, everywhere you look, there seems to be a new drive-in movie venue popping up. The Lowcountry is a perfect example of that.  At the moment, there are multiple places where you can catch a drive-in movie, or at least watch a movie out of doors. Some of these options are annual summer offerings.  But a couple have sprung up as a direct result of COVID and the movie theaters being closed or extremely limited.  I’ve covered a couple of these in previous posts, but I’ll lay them all out again to show all your outdoor movie options.  There’s also a brand new drive-in movie theater opening up soon, which is pretty exciting.  I’ll start with that one first.

Moonlite Theaters at the Cadillac Ranch

Location: the old Miller Cadillac car lot, at 512 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. This is a brand new venture that hopes to be up and running by Labor Day.  It will show “the most recent films that [they] can get [their] hands on” and will show them on Thursdays through Sundays.  They’re planning to have food trucks on hand for your dining pleasure.  You’re welcome to stay in your cars, or sit in your own lawn chairs you set up nearby  -  just be sure to practice safe social distancing.  Check them out on Facebook.

Here are their five reasons to spend date night at the drive-in movie theater...

  1. It’s Timeless: Back in the day, drive-ins were the premiere spot to spend date night! There may not be the classic cars or squawk boxes, but the drive-in still provides a sense of nostalgia that will make you feel like you traveled back in time to the 1950’s.
  2. It’s Affordable: Everyone loves going to the movies but let’s be honest, it can be expensive, not with us as you will only pay per car.
  3. Privacy: Enjoy movies in the privacy of your own space. Pop the seats down, bring a blanket and snuggle with your significant other as you watch the newest and most popular movies.
  4. You Can Talk: This goes hand-in-hand with privacy. If you missed an important line or don’t understand what’s going on, ask your significant other. If you simply want to ask if they want popcorn, you can do it without disturbing anyone around you. Ask away and then go get that popcorn!
  5. You Are In Control: Gone are the days of sitting in a freezing or stuffy theater. At the drive-in, you are in control! Adjust the temperature to your liking and watch in comfort. Snuggle up in the bed of a pickup truck, lay the seats down or get some lawn chairs and crank the radio up.
