To the list of all the reasons to stay in a beach house Charleston, you can add one more – it’s near what the experts say is one of the best food cities in the world. More about that in a minute. As I covered in that last blog, we are in the midst of the countdown to the Great American Eclipse, coming up in just a few short weeks. August 21st is the date, and local officials are in the midst of putting together a safety plan for the day. The powers-that-be are expecting a large crowd of people, since Charleston has been earmarked as one of the best places to watch the eclipse in its totality. In fact, last fall the Washington Post singled Charleston out as one of the top spots to experience something that hasn’t happened in 99 years. Read more about it here. Hopefully you have booked one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC way in advance. The Post mentioned how lodging within the 50 to 70 mile wide “path of totality” (where the total eclipse will be visible) already started booking up in May 2016. If you will be in one of our SC vacation rentals, either a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, you will be among the very last people in America to witness the extraordinary celestial event. Read all about it at eclipse central - https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/ You can purchase solar glasses there. Or If you’re in a Charleston beach house, namely one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals, you can pick them up for free on the island. More details of where to get them free on that last blog.
Now back to the latest accolade for the Holy City, and another reason to stay in a beach house Charleston.
The list just keeps getting longer, of top ten lists and reasons to visit the area near our beach rentals Charleston. Esteemed magazine Food & Wine took a poll of their top authorities on all things food - critics, top chefs, travel experts, photographers, writers and other contributors. They asked them to come up with their list of the best food cities in the world. No surprise! Charleston made the short list. According to Food & Wine, the best food cities in the world are (in no particular order):
- Los Angeles
- Florence (Italy, not South Carolina)
- New York
- Hong Kong
- New Orleans
When you look at the list of cities, Charleston is BY FAR the smallest city on the list. It’s quite amazing when you think how such a small metropolis (if you can even call the Holy City that) can produce such world-class cuisine. There’s an incredible variety, and it’s all a short drive from our luxury beach house rentals SC.
A civilized-sized city with a giant reputation
It’s a pretty cool article, because in each case, a famous foodie makes the case for each choice. In our case, it’s Charleston chef extraordinaire Sean Brock. In an article called “Charleston Cuisine is the Best It’s Ever Been,” Brock tells Jordana Rothman some of what makes the CHS food scene so great. Here are some excerpts:
“Pound for pound, Charleston has an insanely impressive food scene. It’s a tiny city, and yet we’re jam-packed with great restaurants… There’s just so much new stuff unfolding. It feels like we are starting to realize how diverse Southern food can be. Fifty years from now, we’ll look back on this time period and see that we were part of something incredibly special.”
