A couple new installments of Lowcountry virtual events are taking place this week, and they’re worth a look. As I covered in previous blogs, people and entities have gotten downright creative in bringing their performances, events and information from a distance to folks still hunkered at home or off someplace. Virtual events have become a genuine phenomenon, one that very well may survive and thrive post-COVID. What a great concept, by the way… “Post-COVID.” May that be a reality soon. Experts predict one of the lasting aftereffects of the coronavirus crisis will be more people working from home. Looks like Zoom is here to stay.
Virtual Events - Wednesday, June 24th
Lowcountry Listens is a cool series of live performances at the beloved Gaillard Center in downtown Charleston. Sponsored by PNC Bank, they’re taking place each Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. for the next few weeks. Read all about the series in this blog. Due to recent events, they did a little shuffling of the schedule. The performance originally scheduled for last week has been moved to tomorrow - Wednesday, June 24th. It’s the group She Returns From War, featuring Charleston’s own Hunter Park. Here’s more about Hunter:
With two full-length albums under her belt and another one coming together in the studio, it’s easy to say she has established herself as one of the strongest songwriters coming out of the modern south. Dazzling imagery and word play keep her listeners on their toes waiting for what turn her tune will take.
She has shared the stage with bands like St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Shovels and Rope, and recently completed a west coast tour as the opening act for Band of Horses. She was asked to open for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders as a part of his rally in Charleston.
There is no arguing with the fact that Park works hard in this ever changing industry, and with an underlying message of hope, we can see her magic hard at work as well. You can follow her on Instagram at @shereturnsfromwar…. or watch a sneak preview here.
Virtual Events - Thursday, June 25th
Another fun ongoing series is sponsored by the SCDNR, or the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. One of their primary aims is to help educate us all about things having to do with the value, beauty and richness of the natural world here in the state. Their summer series called “Outside In” happens Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00. This week’s installment is a particularly practical one - “Boating in SC, The Safe & Eco-Friendly Way.” After all, boating is one of the top fun things to do while visiting the Lowcountry. We have no shortage of water and waterways in these parts, and it’s an ideal way to see and experience the area. Here’s how they describe it:
Learn from SCDNR Law Enforcement officers about how to boat safely, lawfully and smart in different South Carolina waterways! We will go over everything from how to be an eco-friendly boater to boating regulations and even provide proper boating etiquette tips. This webinar will cover everything you need to know on how to boat in SC.
If you can't attend the live broadcast this Thursday, June 25th, you can also view a recording after the presentation using the registration link. Check out all of the past webinars here.
So check out one of these cool virtual events - a Gaillard concert Wednesday evening, or a handy boating seminar this Thursday afternoon. And if you’re looking to book one of our SC vacation rentals, just give us a call at EP and we’ll hook you up. All best, Lowcountry Lisa your Isle of Palms vacation blogger
