When you come to stay in a Charleston beach house, it stands to reason that you can use some good beach reading material during your visit. This weekend just happens to be the perfect chance to stock up on beach reading and much more, appropriate for all reading and interest levels.  It’s a fun annual event that also happens to support a worthy cause. If you’re here right now, the weather is marvelous.  Thankfully we only had a little wind from Hurricane Michael.  Of course our thoughts and prayers are with those in Florida, Alabama and Georgia who were seriously affected by this historic storm. We have been blessed and fortunate on the coast of South Carolina.  It’s perfect weather to lounge on the deck with a book and take in some Vitamin D, aka sunshine. This weekend is the Charleston County Library’s annual fall book sale, affectionately known as “That BIG Book Sale.”  This is the 37th year that TBBS has taken place.  It’s going on today through Sunday.

This is some of the beach reading material (and more) you’ll find at the book sale:

  • Both fiction and nonfiction, hardback and paperback books galore;
  • Nonfiction books on cooking, art, architecture, history, travel, religion, sports, science, and a whole lot more;
  • Music CDs, books on CD, and DVDs;
  • Games;
  • Maps, sheet music, and prints for framing;
  • 30 tables of books for toddlers to young adults;
  • Prices start at just 50 cents for children’s books;
  • Admission is absolutely free!
  • Hours: Friday (today), October 12th from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.;

  • On the final day -  Sunday  -  all items (except tote bags) are half-price!

TBBS is sponsored by Charleston Friends of the Library (CFOL). Proceeds go toward helping the public library do its good work for the community.  CFOL pledges at least $100,000 to the library each year; most of that is raised by book sales like this one. It’s a great, wholesome place to do some early Christmas shopping.  They tend to have a lot of local interest items, so it’s also a nice place to grab a souvenir from your stay in the Lowcountry. TBBS takes place at the Omar Shrine Auditorium at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant.  It’s located at 176 Patriots Point Road, an easy drive from the beach. Here’s a link from the library’s website.

Events happen tonight and tomorrow, October 12th and 13th.  Tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon are the polo matches.  Sponsors include Ferrari, Bentley Charlotte, Vineyard Vines, Truly, Angry Orchard, Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

A new farmers market in Charleston

  And last but not least, there’s a new farmers market launching this weekend.  Called The Post and Courier Farmers Market,  it’s happening on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 in the Visitor’s Lot of the Post & Courier, at the corner of King and Columbus Streets downtown. They’ll have over 40 vendors, with produce, artisans’ wares and food trucks for your shopping and dining pleasure.  This is also a great way to sample local Lowcountry products and find a souvenir from your stay in Charleston. As a nice bonus, there’s free parking available in the P&C employee parking lot across the street. So grab some good beach reading at a great price, watch some polo, and check out a new farmers market.  And remember, when you are looking for the best beach rentals near Charleston, to call Exclusive Properties.
