The Oscars

And the Oscar goes to….

This coming Sunday is the 87th annual Academy Awards, and a luxury house on Isle of Palms or Folly Beach house Charleston is a great place to watch the ceremonies.  Our luxury beach house rentals SC have plenty of flat screens on which to watch the red carpet, catch the winners and their scintillating speeches, and even accommodate those in your Charleston beach house who’d rather watch something else.

The Oscars air on ABC, which is seen locally on Channel 4.  The ceremony itself starts at 8:30 p.m. (and lasts till 11:30), but the so-called “starting ceremonies” begin at 7:00.  Also, ABC is beginning early with the countdown to the Oscars beginning at 3:30 and red carpet coverage starting at 5:00.  It’s just like the hoopla buildup to the Superbowl.

For the fashionistas out there, E! Network has their “Live from the Red Carpet” starting at 5:30.

Here are some interesting stats, “Oscars by the numbers” as printed by the The Post and Courier  -

323  -  Number of features eligible for Best Picture this year

288  -  Number of features eligible for Best Picture last year

83  -   Number of countries submitting foreign language films

6,124  -  Number of voting members in The Academy

2,951  -  Total number of Oscar statuettes presented since the first Oscars

13½ inches  -  Height of Oscar statuette

8½ pounds  -  Weight of Oscar statuette

4 hours, 23 minutes  -  Longest Oscar telecast (the 74th Academy Awards show in 2002)

1 hour, 40 minutes  -  Shortest Oscar telecast (the 31st Academy Awards show in 1959)

March 19, 1953  -  Date of first televised show

19  -  The number of times Bob Hope has hosted the Oscars, making him the person who has hosted the most shows

If you’d like to head out and watch it at an official viewing party, there’s a good one that also benefits a great organization.  It’s “Night at the Oscars with Pet Helpers,” starting Sunday night at 7:00 p.m.  The theme is “Come As You Are, or Come As A Star,” and there will be champagne, dancing and cool music by the Quiana Parler and Friends Band.

The party’ll happen at Club Trio at 139 Calhoun Street downtown  -  convenient to all our rental homes South Carolina, both Isle of Palms luxury rentals and Folly Beach rentals Charleston.

 And yet more Mardi Gras...

Even though Mardi Gras was this past Tuesday, the celebration seems to go on and on.  Tomorrow (Saturday) February 21 is the 11th annual Mardi Crawl, sponsored by the Lowcountry Parrot Head Club, which encourages you to come “party with a purpose.”  You’ll go from one restaurant to the next, to answer a trivia question, enjoy food & drink specials, interactive games and live music  -  all to help out several great charities (the Alzheimer’s Association, Pet Helpers, the Ronald McDonald House, Hospitality Heroes, HALOS and Toys for Tots).

It takes place at Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, an easy drive from all our SC vacation rentals, especially our Isle of Palms vacation rentals.  Participating restaurants/locales include: Red’s Ice House, RB’s, Vickery’s. Water’s Edge, The Shelter, and Shem Creek Bar & Grill.

Registration begins at noon at Red’s Ice House (98 Church Street), and the event starts at 1:00 p.m.  Tickets are $25 advance at $30 at the event.  Here’s more info:

So, happy Oscar viewing  ---  here’s hoping there’ll be another John Travolta “Adele Naseem” moment  --- and remember to call EP for the winningest in beach house rentals Charleston SC.

All best,
