Well, in the last few blogs I’ve covered some of the many Halloween happenings near our rental homes South Carolina.  This will be the last, I promise, especially since tonight is Halloween. Going on this evening is the annual Halloween Carnival and Costume Contest at the Rec Center, right near all our Isle of Palms vacation rentals.  This is particularly good for kids, as they have several age divisions for the costume judging. Also, the shops at Tanger Outlet in North Charleston are hosting trick or treating this evening for kids 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult.  More than 40 shops will be participating.  Those who are will have a decal posted in the window.  They’ll also have games and fun things like rock painting. Tanger is an easy drive from all our beach house rentals Charleston SC, whether you’re in a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston.  Read or watch more about it here.

Fair Time near our rental homes South Carolina

Talk about a long-standing Lowcountry tradition… it’s time again for the 61st annual (!) Coastal Carolina Fair.  It’s a pretty big deal around these parts, and 300,000 are expected to attend over the course of its run.  It also raises money for good charities and scholarships.  Last year organizers raised over $800,000 to help over 90 groups in the community. You may recall the ultimate chick-flick, “The Notebook,” which was filmed in Charleston, Mount Pleasant and all around the Lowcountry.  Well, Noah first saw and fell in love with Allie at the fair.  So who knows  -  maybe you could have your own Noah-meets-Allie magical moment while here! Several big musical acts will be performing.  Headliners include Blood, Sweat & Tears, Deana Carter, Mark Chesnutt, Jaci Velasquez, William Michael Morgan and others.  All concerts are at the Lakefront Stage, and admission is free with entrance to the fair. As for things to see and do, you have an overchoice:

  • Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean
  • American BullRiders Tour
  • Amazing Arthur
  • Michael Blaine
  • Kevin Johnson, Ventriloquist
  • Carl Brunson, One Man Band
  • Performances by Grant’s Dance Company, Randell Dukes, Ed’Drena, Fiona Varner, Jennie and the General, Summerville Dance Company, area church and gospel choirs and many more
  • Talent Search
  • Fashion Shows
  • Coastal Carolina Fair Pageants in several age divisions
  • Creative Arts
  • Fine Arts Show
  • Photography Show
  • Youth Arts Show
  • Flower Show
  • Chili Cook-Off
  • LEARN Horse Rescue Show and horse-riding competitions
  • All-American Petting Zoo
  • Countless Vendors
  • Numerous 4-H Competitions and Events

…and of course the Midway Rides and Kiddieland Rides!

There are more than 20 carnival rides this year for kids and adults, including these:

  • Flying Bobs;
  • The Giant Wheel;
  • Haunted Mansion;
  • Mega Drop;
  • Gravitron;
  • Carousel;
  • Dizzy Dragons;
  • Frog Hopper;
  • The Family Swinger.

And of course, there will be the requisite bad-for-you deep-fried fair food.  The Post & Courier did an interesting story on it recently.  They went with local foodstar Melanie Durant and her little boy to check it out.  Melanie is the former pastry chef at FIG and The Ordinary and currently runs the very popular Scram food truck.  She hadn’t been to a fair in a decade and a half and had never been to one in the Palmetto State. Read about her experience here. The Coastal Carolina Fair is going on now through Sunday, November 5th.  It’s located at the Exchange Park in Ladson, a pretty convenient drive from all our SC vacation rentals, both Isle of Palms luxury rentals and Folly Beach rentals Charleston.  For your GPS, it’s at 9850 U.S. Highway 78, Ladson.  From a Charleston beach house out on Folly, just head over to the peninsula and catch I-26, then head up to the Ladson exit.  From a luxury house on Isle of Palms, the easiest would be to head over the Connector to Mount Pleasant, get on I-526 till you reach I-26, then head north (well, technically west, I-26 West) till you reach the Ladson exit. Here’s the official website with all the scoop, including ticket prices, hours, schedules, and parking info:   So check out the fair, and remember to watch out for those trick-or-treaters tonight.  And remember, when you are looking for rental homes South Carolina, namely luxury beach house rentals SC, to call EP.  We’ll pair you with the perfect one. All best, Lowcountry Lisa your Isle of Palms vacation blogger
