More high tech helps to help make your visit to a Charleston beach house as smooth as possible…

What’s the point of technology if not to make our lives a little better?   There’s something else to help enhance your stay at one of our beach rentals Charleston, especially if you happen to be in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals. The South Carolina Department of Transportation has installed a camera at the island’s one traffic light/intersection.  It streams live video showing the traffic coming on and off the Isle of Palms Connector. This is a tremendous help in planning your trips on or off the island to or from your luxury house on Isle of Palms.  Since Memorial Day and Spoleto have passed and we are officially in the high season for our SC vacation rentals, beach traffic becomes an issue on and off the Connector.   The traffic cam will give you a real-time assessment of how it’s looking to get on and off the IOP.

To help plan your drive to/from your Charleston beach house…

Here’s how you check the IOP Connector traffic cam: Option 1:

  • Download the app -  It’s called SCDOT 511.
  • Go to Cameras;
  • Select Charleston Beaches;
  • Then select 100: Hwy517/703 (Isle of Palms Connector).

Option 2:

  • Go to the website, http://www.511sc.org/
  • On the blue banner near the top, click on Cameras.
  • Click on Charleston Beaches. The IOP Connector cam automatically opens.
  • Click on the play icon to stream live video of the traffic going on and off the Connector.

This 511 app and website are terrific resources for checking roads all over the state, where you can check out live streaming video on a number of roads, intersections and bridges.  Here’s a breakdown of where they have cameras, and how many are in each place:

  • Charleston -  67 (including several helpful ones on the Ravenel and Don Holt bridges)
  • Charleston Beaches -  1
  • Columbia -  160
  • Florence -  10
  • Gaffney -  28
  • Greenville -  82
  • Myrtle Beach -  37
  • Rock Hill -  32

They are adding cameras all the time, so stay tuned for even more options.  Plans are underway for ones at Folly Beach (great if you’re in a Folly Beach house Charleston), as well as Sullivan’s Island and the Ben Sawyer Bridge.  This will be particularly helpful to see whether or not the drawbridge is open, and will help planning your drive to or from our beach house rentals Charleston SC, especially our Isle of Palms vacation rentals. So check out those cool apps… and remember to call EP when you are looking for the best in rental homes South Carolina.  We can connect you and your friends & family with the perfect Charleston beach house.
