The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, better known as SCDNR, is sponsoring a fun webinar series called, “Bringing the Outside In.”  In their words, it provides “ways to connect to the outdoors while staying indoors!”  What a perfect idea for these COVID days. As I mentioned in that last blog, SCDNR is sponsoring a fun series of virtual summer camps geared especially for kids, which focus on marine life.  Kids (and their parents, if they'd like) can log on each Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. from now through the end of July for these virtual summer camps. Each one spotlights a different marine life topic, and they involve a fun craft activity.  They’re also live and interactive, so you’re welcome to ask questions during the session.  Be sure to register first.  You can find more about that here. This morning’s virtual summer camp topic was horseshoe crabs.  It concluded with making paper plate versions of these popular Lowcountry residents.  And the timing is no fluke.  June 20th is International Horseshoe Crab Day!

“Bringing the Outside In” Webinars

Well, SCDNR is also sponsoring a webinar series geared more toward adults. Entitled, “Bringing the Outside In,” these take place on Thursday afternoons at 3:00 p.m. and are led by SCDNR educators and biologists.  Each one lasts about 45-60 minutes with live chat options for an interactive participant experience. This Thursday’s topic:  Horseshoe Crabs, of course!  Here’s how they put it: “Join us for an opportunity to learn about the critical role horseshoe crabs play in both our coastal environment and human health. We’ll hear from our horseshoe crab scientists as they share their research with us. Learn why we are celebrating these amazing arthropods on June 20th for International Horseshoe Crab Day!” You’ll need to register first, which you can do here. You can also access recordings after they air live.  In fact, they already have quite a library of ones you can watch at your leisure.  Here are some of the past webinars available for viewing now:

  • Freshwater Features: Trout in South Carolina
  • Erosion and Renourishment: Unearthing Coastal Treasures
  • Coastal Lifestyle for Clean Water
  • Native Gardening: Beauty and Benefits
  • The ACE Basin: A Conservation Success Story
  • Fishing Knots for Coastal SC
  • Sea Turtle Nesting
  • Composting 101

So check out these fun and educational webinars that are a great way of “Bringing the Outside In.”  And if you’re ready to venture out and stay here in the Lowcountry, just give us a call at Exclusive Properties, and we’ll help you select from among our portfolio of luxury beach house rentals SC.
