A holiday run turns 30, having raised over $1 million for charity.

Reindeer Run

On the heels of the Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble, it’s the 33rd annual Reindeer Run (and Walk), another festively fun 5K.

When it began, only a few hundred folks took part.  It’s grown to over 3,500 participants and has raised seven figures for MUSC Children’s Hospital and the endowment of the Charitable Society of Charleston.

The Reindeer Run is jolly jog or jaunt   -  5K, or in American terms 3.1 miles  -  through the streets of downtown Charleston to get you in the mood for Christmas.   The race begins and ends at RiverDogs Stadium (a new locale this year), circling Hampton Park and going past the Citadel.

The race is perfect for all fitness levels, is family-friendly, and promises a great combo of creative costumes, prizes, children and dogs.  Unlike the Gobble Wobble, strollers and dogs are allowed and encouraged.  There’s also free beer and a major after party for those of age.

The Reindeer Run is sponsored by Half-Moon Outfitters.  They’ll give awards for kids 6 & under and adults to 99. If your Reindeer isn't as fit as Rudolph, walk the course and enjoy all the festivities along the way.  Either way, come dressed in your holiday costumes to win fabulous prizes.  Costume Contest categories include: Adult Individual, Child Individual, Group and Dog, with the top three from each category winning nifty prizes from local businesses.

Runners start at 9:00 a.m., walkers at 9:05 a.m.

The entry fee is $35 for both runners and walkers and includes a race t-shirt and reindeer antler ears!
