A National Historical Landmark gets adorned with light for the holidays.

Nights of a Thousand Candles

Brookgreen Gardens is a rare treasure of art and nature rolled into one.  Established by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington in 1931, this 9,100 acre preserve near Murrells Inlet combines a vast museum-quality sculpture collection with a wildlife preserve and a botanical garden.   The result is unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Each Christmas season, Brookgreen Gardens is magically transformed with lights.  Nights of a Thousand Candles has fast become a beloved annual event, when it glows with over 2,700 hand-lit candles, plus millions of electric sparkling lights.  They are situated all throughout the landscape, twinkling from the trees and reflecting in the water below.

Visit on select evenings in November and December.  Sip warm cider as you stroll through the gardens, serenaded by live music from a brass quintet, bagpipes, or various vocal groups performing holiday favorites.  If you’d like, dine at Harvest, their signature restaurant (reservations required).

Check their website for details and ticket info.  Dates and details for 2024 are tentative, so check back closer to the holidays for the latest info.
