Dance to beach music on the Folly Beach Pier during summer evenings.

Shagging is a Carolina favorite pastime.  The Shaggin’ on the Cooper series (now called Dancing on the Cooper) at Waterfront Park in Mount Pleasant is a wildly popular and fun summer event. 

There’s a similar event, also sponsored by the good people at Charleston County Parks & Rec, out on Folly Beach.  It’s Moonlight Mixers, and it’s going on three Friday nights during the summer on the newly renovated Folly Beach Pier.

Dates for 2026 are:

• May 1 with DJ Bill Shelton
• June 5 with Dave Landeo Band
• July 31 with DJ Bill Shelton
• Aug. 21 with Calhoun’s Calling
• Sept. 18 with DJ Bill Shelton

Highlights include:

• Shagging under the stars on the scenic Folly Beach Edwin S. Taylor Fishing Pier;
• Music by DJ John Dixon, spinning beach music and other classic oldies;
• Food, snacks & beverages will be available for purchase at Pier 101 Restaurant or the Gangplank Gift & Tackle Shop (please don’t bring outside coolers or alcohol);
• Gates open and music starts at 7:00 p.m. and the event goes till 10:00 p.m.
• Tickets are $10 advance or $15 day of, if there are any left;
• Kids 3 and under are free;
• You’re encouraged to bring chairs, as seating is limited.  Just don't set them up in the dancing area!
