In 2024, the fine folks at Islander 71 hosted a party centered around the world’s most famous horse race, and everyone was cordially invited. It’s a great chance to hang out with the locals in one of the Isle’s favorite spots, and the next best thing to being at Churchill Downs.
It was such a hit, they're bringing it back in 2025!
Here are the deets:
- Saturday, May 3rd - The party lasts from 3:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. The race is at 6:27 p.m., come for as little or as long as you like;
- Free to attend:
- Complimentary valet parking;
- Huge 20' TV screen to watch the race;
- Live MC during the race;
- Woodford Bourbon drink specials;
- Mint Juleps, Herradura Margaritas, Southern specialties like Betty Jean’s Famous Crab Cakes and Shrimp & Grits;
- Live Music with DJ Mike C;
- A Derby-style 50/50 raffle benefiting Hope Lodge Charleston, which supports families undergoing cancer treatment in the Charleston area;
- Be sure to don your finest attire – and elaborate hats for the ladies! - because there will be a Best Dressed Contest with prizes.
- Prizes for Best Dressed Man, Best Dressed Female, and Best Dressed Couple!
Islander 71 is located at the IOP Marina, where 41st Avenue meets the Intracoastal Waterway.
