Celebrate with a free patriotic concert and fireworks!

Independence Weekend

The City of Charleston and the Charleston Symphony team up to throw a grand Independence Weekend Party at The Joe  -  venue extraordinaire and home of the Charleston RiverDogs.

NOTE: Exact date and details haven't been announced yet for 2024, so stay tuned.  When July 4th falls during the week, they often celebrate it on the weekend near it.

Head to the Joe  -  aka Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ballpark in downtown Charleston  -  for all kinds of fun, free music and fireworks.

Gates open at 6:00 p.m., and RiverDogs famous concessions will be available for purchase.

Then, at 8:00 p.m., it’s a special holiday concert by the Charleston Symphony.  Get set for:

  • Patriotic music by John Philip Sousa and John Williams;
  • Pops favorites by Tchaikovsky;
  • A special salute to the Armed Forces of America;
  • Special guest artist in 2023 was Javetta Campbell performing Broadway showtunes and popular songs;
  • Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait narrated by Mayor John Tecklenburg.

After the music, it’s a big fireworks show, sponsored by Charleston Place.

The event is free, but you must reserve a ticket in advance.  You can do so here
