First up, for those in one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals, check out a four-day music extravaganza called the “Shine a Little Love Festival,” also known as Sallfest. 
It was started in 2014 by country music singer-songwriter Brian Collins as a way to give back. Proceeds benefit MUSC’s Murray Center for Research on Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders. In an interview in the Post & Courier, he put it this way:
Music “has been instrumental in helping me heal from some tough times in his life. I suppose it’s my soul’s way of self-healing. If you stay busy doing something good, you can never go wrong. Maybe you can call it a ‘distraction of positive traction.'”
Also performing is Grammy-nominated folk rock musician Shawn Mullins, who had this to say: “It’s gratifying to be part of a benefit that contributes to the MUSC center’s serious efforts to find causes of Parkinson’s disease and to create new treatments for this disease. Having lost my grandmother to Parkinson’s, I can personally relate to the great work MUSC is doing.”

The party kicks off Saturday at 10:00 a.m. on Center Street and lasts till 5:00 p.m. There will be all kinds of live entertainment, food, and art, with over 60 different vendors and booths. For kids, there are plenty of carnival games and activities like a jump castle and bouncy slides. Also check out hula hooping, and a beer garden for the adults. It’s billed as a family-friendly event, good for all ages in your Charleston beach house. No dogs or coolers, please. The best news is that all the proceeds help in the fight against cancer, via MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. It also benefits local individuals and their families living on Folly who are fighting the disease. Festival organizers work with a special group named Folly’s Angels to identify those most in need of financial help. Entrance to the festival is $5 advance or $10 at the door and includes a commemorative cup and a koozie.
