Our luxury beach house rentals SC are a great place to ring in 2017.  This past year has been a tumultuous one in many ways, including the many great people we lost during 2016.  From Bowie to Prince, George Michael, and now Princess Leia Carrie Fisher and her mom Debbie Reynolds within one day of each other  -  I for one am looking toward 2017 with a sense of expectant hope as the calendar page turns.

Ring in the new year in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC

If you’re here in one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC – either one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston  –  you have great options of how to ring in the new year and celebrate its first day.

NEW YEAR’S EVE near our luxury beach house rentals SC

Of course, it’s hard to beat hunkering down in a Charleston beach house for a warm family gathering, taking a stroll on the beach and toasting with champagne as the new Dick Clark, Ryan Seacrest, drops the ball in Times Square.  There’s no need for a designated driver, plus you avoid the crowds.

On the other hand, you may wish to ring it in in the company of others.

Happy New Year, Charleston! Official party near our luxury beach house rentals SC

First off, the City of Charleston is hosting its annual New Year’s Eve in Marion Square downtown.  It’s a free, family-friendly, non-alcoholic way to celebrate a little earlier in the day.  Happy New Year, Charleston! will take place from 4:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and is perfect for the younger ones in your group.  There will be lots of fun activities like…

  • Karaoke for kids and adventurous adults;
  • face painting and arts & crafts;
  • jump castles;
  • crazy hat station;
  • photo booth;
  • Live music beginning after dark around 6:00 p.m., by New Galaxy Band and Whiskey Diablo.

Marion Square is at the corner of King and Calhoun Streets on the downtown peninsula and is a convenient drive from all our SC vacation rentals.  Here’s more:  https://www.facebook.com/events/2368673053274137/

Not surprisingly, there’s a large number of evening parties being hosted around town, at various venues and restaurants.  They range from casual to fully decked out (like the Snyder Grand Ball at the Aquarium, which last I checked is sold out).  Here’s a link to some of them: http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/charleston/NewYearsEveeventsinCharleston/Page

There are a couple worth noting.  If you’re in one of the Folly Beach rentals Charleston, they’re having their own unique version of the Times Square Ball Drop  --  except they’ll be dropping a pair of giant eight-foot tall flip flops.  It’s the Folly Flip Flop Drop, and it’ll be going on from 10:00 p.m. until.  They’ll be closing off Center Street, local restaurants will stay open late, there will be family-friendly activities, music by DJ Furman Dominick, and a special fireworks show after the big drop.

Here’s the story about how the Flip Flop Drop came to be:  http://www.postandcourier.com/news/folly-to-ring-in-the-new-year-with-flip-flop/article_9448aaae-cc56-11e6-90ca-db309a24b58e.html

If you’re staying in a luxury house on Isle of Palms and don’t feel like driving very far (if at all), you might want to check out The Windjammer.  Starting at 9:00 they are having an 80’s-themed party with music by the Spazmatics, champagne toast and favors.  Tickets are $15 advance or $20 at the door.  You can buy tickets here:  http://www.the-windjammer.com/wp/events/

A quick reminder  -  individual fireworks are prohibited on both the Isle of Palms and Folly Beach.

NEW YEAR’S DAY near our luxury beach house rentals SC

Then come New Year’s Day, there are a couple more fun ways to kick off 2017, and they involve the water… namely, jumping into it.

If you’re in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals, head on over to Sullivan’s for the annual Dunleavy’s Pub Polar Plunge benefitting the Special Olympics.  This has grown tremendously over the years and is quite the spectacle, as thousands of folks dress in all kinds of kooky costumes to head into the water.  All the “Freezin’ for a Reason” action centers at Dunleavy’s (2213 Middle Street) starting at 10:00 a.m., and the actual plunge happens at 2:00 p.m.  You might want to head over early to find parking since this is a very popular event.  Here’s more:  https://www.facebook.com/DunleavysPolarPlunge/

Folly Beach has its own unique spin on the idea of a polar bear plunge, with its 4th  annual Bill Murray Look-A-Like Polar Plunge.  Participants are encouraged to dress like local resident Bill Murray (or one of his movie characters), and there will be judging and prizes.  Registration starts at 11:00 a.m. with the judging happening at noon and the plunge going on at 1:00 p.m.  Restaurants and bars will open early so participants can enjoy libations; the revelry will continue after the plunge all over town.

So have a happy and safe New Year’s.  And remember, when you are looking for rental homes South Carolina  -  specifically luxury beach house rentals SC  -  call EP for the best ones around the Lowcountry.
