It’s hosted by the well-known Charleston band Sol Driven Train, which was based for a while on Folly.  They’ve recorded and toured a lot, and their sound has grown along with their popularity.  Their style  -  pop-folk, roots-rock.  Along the way, they’ve folded in the ingredients of New Orleans funk, Southern jam, Caribbean grooves, country, gospel, folk and world music.  Whew! Sol Driven Train also has a heart for helping up-and-coming bands, and they’ve drawn together a cool lineup to play over the two-day event.  The music will span two stages, one of which is outside by the beach. Here’s the lineup for the weekend:

Release some ladybugs near our Isle of Palms vacation rentals, get a t-shirt

While here in one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals, why not release some ladybugs?

One of the best things about staying in rental homes South Carolina during the summer is, you get to bring different generations together and enjoy the unbridled summer joy of kids on vacation from school. That sounds good when you book it, but when you’re in a beach house Charleston and the kids are itching for something fun to do, it helps to have some cool stuff lined up. One such thing is also coming up this Saturday.  Starting at 10:00 a.m., you and your kids are invited to come to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens for the fourth annual massive ladybug release! Magnolia will have 150,000 live ladybugs who need to be set free out into the 60 acres of gardens.  Much more than just being adorable, ladybugs are also great friends of the garden, and are natural predators to harmful pests like aphids and scale insects. Appropriately, the event will begin with the arrival of a red Volkswagen Beetle resembling a ladybug.  Each family will receive a slew of ladybugs to release somewhere on the grounds.  Magnolia will store them in a cool place the night before, so they don’t immediately fly away when released, but will linger and get used to their new surroundings.

More specifics...

A $20 general garden admission fee will apply, but kids 6-12 are $10, and children five and under are free.  Hey kids -  come in costume.  (Cute photo-op alert!)  They’ll give out prizes for the best ladybug outfit in different age categories.  Talk about a cute photo op!  There will also be face painting, live animals and nature displays from several different organizations.  The event starts at 9:00 and lasts till about 2:00.  It's best to arrive early and carpool if possible. Magnolia Plantation is located at 3550 Ashley River Road in Charleston, not far from our Isle of Palms vacation rentals. Here’s a link to more info about the event on their website, where you can find a coupon for $5 off adult admission:  http://www.magnoliaplantation.com/whatsnew.html And if you’re not in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC this weekend, call us to book one for this time next year.
