Located north of the Isle of Palms in nearby Awendaw, this wildlife center is a great place for people of all ages to visit. Come learn all about hawks, falcons, eagles, vultures, kites, owls and other birds of prey from around the globe as well as local native species.
Staff members share their vast knowledge of these magnificent birds through educational walking tours and dramatic flight demonstrations in an open-air amphitheater. Numerous birds are available to view close up, and there is an entire section devoted to owls, many of them nesting. Also on site is an extensive working hospital where injured birds of prey are brought in to be rehabilitated by the caring staff.
Part of the nonprofit Avian Conservation Center, the Center for Birds of Prey is open to visitors Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 - 5. Guided walking tours take place at 10:30 and 2:00; flight demonstrations are at 11:30 and 3:00.
