The largest wildlife art/nature festival in the country, SEWE takes place each year in mid-February and draws more people to the Charleston area than any other single event. World renowned artists display their creations (painting, sculpture, carving, photography), and exhibits and demos take place in several venues around the peninsula, including Charleston Place, Gaillard Auditorium, Marion Square, Francis Marion Hotel, the Mills House, the South Carolina Aquarium and the Charleston Museum.
Popular events include the preview gala and auction, opening reception, Dock Dogs (amazing canines who jump great distances into the water), Birds of Prey flying demonstrations, exotic animals you can approach and feed in Marion Square, and appearances by nationally known nature experts/advocates like Jack Hanna.
