In 1743, the son of Major John Boone planted live oak trees, arranging them in two evenly spaced rows. This spectacular approach to his home symbolizes southern heritage and will take root in your memory for many years to come. It would take two centuries for the massive, moss-draped branches to meet overhead, forming today's natural corridor and a scene that NBC Daytime television says is "a must see stop on any trip to Charleston, S.C."
Boone Hall Plantation is open year-round for tours of the home, extensive gardens and outbuildings. Special events take place all year, including the Strawberry Festival in the spring, summer concert series, Southern Living's Taste of Charleston in October (where you can sample dishes from more than 50 of Charleston's best restaurants), and the Lowcountry Oyster Festival - the world's largest oyster festival - every January.
It is also a working farm, and the Boone Hall Farms store - located at 2521 Highway 17 North in Mt. Pleasant - offers products grown on the plantation as well as other delectable local items, all at surprisingly affordable prices.
